About Us

Shaw Street Pottery was founded by Julie Martin in January 2019 in Toronto’s Little Italy. Tucked behind her home, this cozy and bright studio offers a welcoming space for potters of all levels. With small group of up to four potters, Julie provides beginner and intermediate students with hands-on instruction in various hand building and surface decoration techniques. The pottery wheel program is available on a one-on-one basis, and experienced potters can also rent the studio for three hour sessions.

Every year, Julie organizes amazing travel packages which include a pottery program, and dynamic cultural immersion into vibrant destinations like Mérida (Mexico), Québec City, and Toronto.  These unique travel offerings are all available in collaboration with Movement Travel.

Julie’s passion for pottery began as a teen under the guidance of master potter François Laliberté in Cap-Rouge, near Québec City. After a mid-life hiatus from clay work, she returned to ceramics and  studied with seasoned Toronto ceramists while developing her own style. Facing limited studio access, she eventually built her own studio and founded Shaw Street Pottery, in the peaceful setting of her lush backyard.  Sweet!
